SPORTS BRIEFS: Aid for taekwondo player

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Taekwondo player Ashok Khadka received a financial support of Rs 250,000 on Friday for his treatment. Ashok´s leg was gravely injured during the Second International Taekwondo Championship held about a year ago in Lucknow, India.



Nepal National and International Players´ Association (NNIPA) General Secretary Deepak Bista handed over the amount to Ashok at the Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, Jorpati, where he is undergoing treatment. [break]



The amount was collected from various organizations and individuals among whom the National Sports Council, comedian Deepak Raj Giri and pop star Nima Rumba contributed Rs 0.15 million, Rs 25,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, according to NNIPA.





IT, Sky triumph



KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Information Technology (IT) and Sky emerged victorious on Friday in the Inter-telecom T20 Cricket Tournament being held at the Pulchowk Ground.



IT registered a 29-run win over title holders Namaste. Batting first, IT added 136 runs losing six wickets in 18 overs and in reply Namaste could muster only 107 runs losing six wickets in 18 overs. Hari Krishna Sharma scored the highest 36 runs for IT.



Likewise, Sky defeated PSTN by 23 runs. Opting to bat first, Sky scored 96 runs losing nine wickets and in reply restricted PSTN to 73 runs.



The tournament organized on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of Nepal Telecom is being participated by four teams.
