Skoda Yeti arrives

By
KATHMANDU, June 6: The Skoda Yeti, which was expected to arrive in Kathmandu in April, has finally arrived. The SUV is a new addition into the list of cars with a good design, extraordinary features and quality performance.

The Yeti, which was launched in India during Auto Expo 2010 in January, is already a popular SUV there. It was also awarded the Car of the Year 2010 in Czech Republic - where Skoda is based -- by Czech Motoring Journalist Club. The Czech automaker is known for its obsession for quality and premium cars. It managed to sell about 684,300 cars in 2009. [break]

Skoda Yeti is available in 13 different colors -- Candy White, Corrida Red, Brilliant Silver, Rosso Brunello, Aqua Blue, Anthracite Grey, Black Magic Pearl, Platin Grey, Storm Blue, Cappuccino Beige, Pacific Blue, Mato Brown and Amazonia Green. It has four-wheel drive of the 4th generation Haldex system which sends 90 percent power to the front wheels.

“Yeti has all the best features from the cars of Skoda stable,” NK Sharma, head of Skoda division at Morang Auto Works, told myrepublica.com. It has all the features that other cars of its type have like electric windows, power mirror, power steering, dual exhaust and alloy wheels, he added.

The Electric Panoramic Sunroof of the car can be seen both from the front and back sides of the car. The steering wheel is height and reach adjustable and has music control embedded in it. The music system is connected to eight speakers which makes it audible from a great distance.

The roof rail makes the car look sportier and adds to the design. It has chrome-plated inner door handles. Xenon headlights of Yeti have dynamic angle control that turns with the turn of steering wheels.

The integrated fog lamp in a completely new design is installed in the vehicle. It also has integrated telescopic headlamp washer just below the headlamp and also factory fitted rear sensor. The Yeti has electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors that defog the mirrors automatically.

The rear central seat can be folded to make an armrest or a table. It also has the opening to the trunk for loading things better. Apart from time, the display in the front shows the kilometers that the car can travel before running out of fuel, outside temperature, average speed and average mileage.

The intelligent air-conditioner also reads the direction of sunrays and adjusts temperature accordingly. The safety features of the vehicle are one of its kind. Along with normal features like central lock, dual airbag, keyless entry, side protection strips and anti-lock braking system, Yeti adds more to the list.

The passenger airbag can be switched off when a child is seated in the front seat. The key has an electronic chip installed in it which should be read by the vehicle before starting the ignition. Copy of the key sans electronic chip will not start the vehicle. The chip also has floating code to prevent the code from being hacked. The radio of the car once disconnected from the battery needs a code to re-install.

“Any part of Yeti will not work if fitted into another Yeti as every Yeti has an individual identity,” Sharma said, adding, “We will officially launch the vehicle after the upcoming budget speech,” says Sharma.
