Around 5,000 scouts volunteers from Nepal and foreign countries will get the opportunity to camp out with friends, make new friends, try high-adventure activities, learn new skills, and enjoy the outdoors during the jamboree. [break] According to the organizers, Nepal Scouts, the jamboree aims at disseminating the message of peace and brotherhood in the villages.
The first jamboree was held in 1987 in Kritipur, Kathmandu. However, due to the poor law and order situation and funds crunch, the second jamboree had to wait for such a long time.
Nepal Scouts coordinator Tirtharaj Nyaupane informed that the event is expected to be attended by over 5,000 national and international scouts. The organizer has estimated that it will cost around Rs 16 million to organize the event. Last year, the government had provided Rs 6.1 million rupees and this year Rs 6.7 million for the purpose.
Nepal Scouts Chief Commissioner Sri Ram Lamichhane informed that the shortfall would be collected from the participants of the jamboree. Lamichhane stated the scouting events have suffered in the lack of funds. “The meeting of the youths from various regions and diverse cultural backgrounds would help develop brotherhood and coexistence,” Lamichhane said. He also informed that 28 different adventure activities will be organized during the jamboree.
Expediting the preparations, the organizer has pitched 200 tents along with the other facilities including internet and electricity. The scouts participants will learn about discipline and hard work necessary for self-dependent living. Puspalata Bhattarai, deputy chief of the Girl Scouts department said that girls students would be provided training on how to keep themselves safe from increasing incidents of sexual abuse in society.
Among foreign scouts volunteers, 35 from Finland, 18 from Malaysia, one from Japan, two from USA and 80 from Bangladesh are expected to participate in the jamboree. The participants would have chance to visit various places and sightseeing in Chitwan. According to Chitwan PABSSON Chairman Bel Bahadur Gurung, various private boarding schools will provide 100 buses for transporting the participants during the jamboree.
