KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) has announced the appointment of Gorakh Rana as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Head, Coverage, Nepal and Executive Director of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL), effective 1 January 2025, subject to required regulatory approvals. His appointment was approved at the Bank’s Board meeting held on December 9, 2024.
According to a press statement issued by SCBNL, Gorakh succeeds Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, who will be stepping down as CEO and Head, Coverage, Nepal at the end of his current term, after six successful years leading the Bank’s franchise in Nepal.

Anirvan will relocate and move to a new role within the Bank’s network. Anirvan will also be appointed Special Advisor to the SCBNL Board, where he will continue to work closely with the Board and the Bank’s stakeholders to support its strategic priorities.
The statement further reads that Gorakh is also the first Nepali national to assume the role of CEO of the Bank. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Knox College and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Gorakh is the husband of the late princess Shruti, the daughter of the late King Birendra whose entire family was killed in the royal palace massacre of 2001.
