Oli has also filed separate writ petitions against the Election Commission, and Speaker of Lumbini Province Purna Bahadur Ghatri.
UML Chairman Oli knocks at SC’s door against Speaker Sapkota
On September 2, Chairman Oli had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the Election Commission for allowing the registration of a new party despite the UML taking action against 14 lawmakers.
Chairman Oli has maintained that the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament was informed about the action taken against 14 lawmakers by the party on charge of violating the party’s whip. However, Speaker Sapkota had said that no actions were needed to be taken as the CPN (Unified Socialist) was already registered at the Election Commission.
Furthermore, Oli also filed a writ petition against the Election Commission for accepting the signature of former UML leader Jhalanath Khanal even though he was in New Delhi. Hearing on all three writ petitions was scheduled for Tuesday.
The preliminary hearing on the writ petitions, which was scheduled on September 3 under the single bench of Justice Mira Khadka, was deferred. The hearing scheduled again under the single bench of Chief Justice Rana on September 5 was also deferred. The court has called both sides for discussion before announcing its final decision on September 13.
