KATHMANDU, June 17: In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday Friday ordered the Pashupati Area Development Fund (PADF) to admit non-Brahmin students to the Pashupati Bidyapith where only Brahmins are allowed to study Sanskrit since its inception in 1974.

Justices Kalyan Shrestha and Abdesh Kumar Yadav passed the judgment while taking up a four-year-old public interest litigation sought an end to the discriminatory policy of the Sanskrit school. "The policy is discriminatory. So it should be nullified," said the Justices in the order to the PADF.

Currently, the school admits 75 Brahmin students, one each from 75 districts, every year and prohibits admission of students from other castes. "Make a special arrangement for students and teachers in view of the order that will led to attract more students," the court ordered the school.
