NEPSE loses 46.33 points; HRL trades Rs 1.12 billion

KATHMANDU, March 9: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday plunged 46.33 points to close at 2,772.10 points.


It was the fifth consecutive day that the country’s market index posted poor performance following the single day gain of 75.24 points last Sunday. In the past five-day transactions, the market shed around 120 points. 


On Sunday, the secondary market opened at 2,818.43 points and went downhill throughout the trading hours. The index hit the day’s low at 2,766.28 points when there were six minutes left for trading.

All the 13 groups were the losers. Life insurance lost the highest of 248.70 points, while non-life insurance and development banks also fell by 165.73 points and 101.17 points respectively.


The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also dropped 7.31 points. Daily turnover fell to Rs 10.09 billion from Rs 10.10 billion on Thursday.


Among the individual companies, only 24 were gainers while 217 were registered as losers. Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.12 billion.


Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Sindhu Bikash Bank had their market prices declined by the largest of 10 percent. Guardian Micro Life Insurance Limited and ICFC Finance Limited Debenture 2088 were the topmost gainers.
