Running In Circles

I had been lost for a long time in a place unknown

Walking towards a destination that my heart had shown

In the middle of my journey, I had this urge of going back

But I couldn’t risk it as I had come so far.

 

With fear, I turned back and saw the void

I was scared to get lost in the wild

So, I looked forward and there was a path

I saw footprints that were distinctly marked.

 

The footprints drew itself over and over

I tracked it down till I reached a place so familiar

All the memories flashed by in an instant

And deep down I felt a pang.

 

The footprints started to make sense

I was terrified to reach the end

That is when I suddenly realized

I had been running in circles all this while.

 

The footprints I saw were actually mine

And I was a fool to not recognize

Finally, I knew where I had been all along

I had been running in circles over and over lifelong.
