ROLPA, June 30: Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality in eastern Rolpa has come up with a new plan to address the issue of privately-paid teachers at the community schools in the rural municipality.

In the annual policies and programs presented for the upcoming fiscal year 2020-21, the rural municipality has stated that it would scrap the positions of private teachers at the community schools replacing them by new ones — ‘rural municipality teachers’. According to the Chairman Gunendra Gharti, the local government will conduct an examination to replace the existing 56 private teachers with new ‘rural municipality teachers’ at 42 community-based schools within the jurisdiction of the local unit. The local government has also allocated a budget of Rs 10 million to pay those teachers in the next fiscal year.

Yadav KC who heads the Education Section at the rural municipality said that a five-member task force under the coordination of Namraj Thapa was also formed to conduct a thorough study and submit a report for the management of existing private teachers. They are required to submit their report by mid-August.

The new system will ensure the entry of competent teachers in the community schools, according to the local administration. For this, a new benchmark will be set and selected teachers will be given appropriate services and perks and benefits with duties and responsibilities they are required to fulfill.

The rural municipality has also introduced ‘Vice-Chairman Scholarship Scheme’ for the girl students studying in grades 11 and 12 in a bid to succeed its decision of making the education upto class 12 mandatory. Under this scheme, girls will get an opportunity to pursue grade 11 and 12 studies free of cost. “We are in the process of formulating a work procedure for this,” said Chairman Gharti.
