BHAKTAPUR, Dec 23: A strange ritual was performed in Bhaktapur by offering jars (ghyampo) to God. The offering was offered in the ancient Durga temples. The ritual was performed by Khaitu families of Bhaktapur.

12 jars were offered to 12 different Gods including Bhairav, Mahakali, Ganesh, Kumari, Maheshwari and Indrayani. Inscription of respective Gods are printed in the offered jars. Local informed that the jars will be used to store different divine ornaments of the Gods like bangles and necklaces.

Earlier, jars were built during the Malla Dynasty. Khaitu family revealed that the offerings were made in new jars as all the ancient ones were damaged. “We have done it on our own since we noticed the,” said donor Narayan Prasad Khaitu.
