Rai, Bohara claim golds in shooting

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Bikash Rai of Budhanilkantha clinched gold in the boys´ 10m air rifle event of the Third Inter-school Shooting Championship on Monday while Diwas Bohara of British Gurkha won the boys´ 10m air pistol event.



Rai scored 195 points to win the air rifle event held at the Satdobato Shooting Range. Pratik Karki of Kantipuri School accumulated 193 points to finish second and his schoolmate Raj Kumar Karki took third place with 192 points.[break]



Likewise, Bohara collected 190 points to win the boys´ 10m air pistol event. Arish Maharjan of United finished second with 188 points while Saurav Neupane of Kantipuri accumulated 184 points for take third position.



In the girls´ section, Nisha Tamang (Lama) of Gyan Mandir School, Dhanusha clinched gold medal in the 10m air rifle event while Sujata Rai of Army School won the 10m air pistol event.

Tamang garnered 194 points in the air rifle event to finish two points ahead of her schoolmate Ashika Shrestha. Rabina Niraula of Kantipuri secured third position with 191 points.

Rai scored 179 points to win the air pistol event. Arya Shrestha of GEMS also scored equal points but Rai edged her on the basis of bull´s eye scores. Joylasha Bajracharya finished third with 178 points.



In the team events, Gyan Mandir clinched gold in girls´ 10m air rifle while Kantipuri won the girls´ 10m air pistol event. Gyan Mandir accumulated 577 points in the air rifle event while runner-up GEMS scored 565 points. British Gurkha finished third with 562 points. Kantipuri garnered 530 points to take gold in the air pistol event. United finished second with 524 points and Army School secured third position with 523 points.



Kantipuri scored 575 points to win the boys´ 10m air rifle event. Budhanilkantha (570 points) and Army School (558 points) finished second and third respectively. Likewise, Army School scored 530 points to clinch gold in the boys´ 10m air pistol event. GEMS (520 points) and British Gurkha (474 points) took second and third positions respectively.



The winners of all the events were decided on the third and final day. The full score was 200 for each individual event and 600 for each team event. Altogether 78 young shooters from seven schools had competed for eight gold medals in the championship.
