Nepal tops the karate medal chart with nine golds, four silvers and two bronzes while Pakistan is second with three golds, seven silvers and six bronzes. Bangladesh also has three golds but is on third in chart since it is five silvers short of Pakistan. It has nine bronze medals. Sri Lanka has two silvers and 13 bronzes and Bhutan has only one bronze medal.
KATHMANDU, Dec 4: Nepal’s Nabin Rasaili and Sunita Maharjan added two more gold medals to push the number of golds in karate to nine on Sunday.
Rasaili came back from 2-0 down to defeat Pakistan’s Ahmed Naseer 8-6 in the men’s individual kumite U-67 kg weight category final bout, while Maharjan outclassed Kulsoom of Pakistan 8-2 in the women’s U-68 kg at the Nepal Karate Academy in Satdobato, Lalitpur.

Sri Lanka’s Fransisku Hettige Silva, who earlier beat Butan’s Dewan Monger in the quarterfinal match 4-2, won bronze after losing to Naseer 4-10 in semis. Bangladesh’s Md Ferdous who lost to Rasaili in the second semifinal match 2-8 also got bronze.
In women’s U-68 kg kumite, Moreom Khatun of Bangladesh got a consoling bronze after losing to Maharjan in technical knockout of 10-2 in semis. Sri Lanka’s Wijesooriya Arachchige also got bronze after losing to Kulsoon 2-9 earlier.
But Nepal was not as dominating on the second day as the first day, as Nepali karateka lost four bouts out of six. On Monday, Nepal had won seven gold and two silver medals in nine events.
Manisha Chaudhary lost in women’s individual U-55 kg kumite bout 1-2 against Bangladeshi karateka Marzan Akter Priya, who became the eventual champion beating Pakistan’s Kousar Sana to give second karate gold to her country.
Earlier, Md Alamin Aslim gave the first gold to Bangladesh defeating Iqbal Zafar of Pakistan 7-3 in men’s kumite U-63 kg category in final bout. Nepal’s Rajiv Pudasaini and Sri Lanka’s Weerakoon Muda won bronze.
In women’s U-61 kg kumite, Nepal’s Anu Gurung won silver after losing to Humaira Akther Antara of Bangladesh 5-2. Pakistan’s Gul Naz who lost to Antara 4-0 in the first semis and Sri Lanka’s Jayakody Arachchcige who lost against Gurung 6-1 in the second semis won bronze medals.
Nepal’s Gangaram Kushwar had to contend with silver as he lost to Pakistan’s Ghulam Abbas Saadi in technical knockout of 8-0 in men’s U-75 kg kumite. Abbas had advanced to the final, overcoming Sri Lanka’s Bandarigodage Kasun Dhanushka 6-1. Dhanushka had beaten Bangladesh’s Md Lokman Hossain 3-0 in the quarter final match.
Bhutan’s Sherab Wangchuk also won bronze after losing to Kushwar 7-1.
