Private sector body flays ‘excessive’ holidays

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has demanded the opening of economic and financial institutions even during holidays. Issuing a statement on Friday, the umbrella organization of businessmen and merchants, said that it was concerned that numerous holidays by the government to celebrate festivals was affecting the economy of the country.

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has demanded the opening of economic and financial institutions even during holidays. Issuing a statement on Friday, the umbrella organization of businessmen and merchants, said that it was concerned that numerous holidays by the government to celebrate festivals was affecting the economy of the country.

The statement comes in the wake of sudden announcement of additional holiday on Friday by the government to mark Chhath festival. The government system to provide holidays under the pretext of culture, festival and other occasions have been negatively impacting the economic development of the country, said the NCC in its statement.


“At a time when the country has been facing huge trade deficit, the unnecessary holidays will not only affect the government beneficiaries, but it would also put the economy in doldrums,” the statement added, urging the government to make arrangement toward opening economic and financial institutions even during such holidays.
