GORKHA, Oct 11: A landslide stretching about one kilometre along the foothills of Siringe Himal may have triggered the devastating flood in the Budhigandaki River after blocking the Uingulung stream and creating a temporary dam that later burst, according to preliminary findings.
A police team inspected the site near Lokpa and Chumling in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-6. According to police, the landslide blocked the stream, forming a temporary water barrier that eventually breached and sent a sudden surge of water into the Budhigandaki River.

The flood swept away five sheep sheds at the foothills of Siringe Himal. People who were staying in the sheds have been reported missing, but details about their condition and the extent of the damage remain unclear.
Teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed to search for and rescue the missing people.
Meanwhile, police rescued 47 people from the flood-affected areas so far. The difficult terrain and landslides have hampered rescue operations.
Authorities are gathering further information on the extent of the damage, the number of missing people and conditions in other affected areas. They have prioritized the safety and rescue of residents amid the risk of further hazards.
