Bagmati Province to compete in all 32 sports at 10th National Games

Deepak Lama, secretary of the Provincial Sports Development Council, said a total of 782 people, including 656 athletes from Bagmati, will participate in the competition. Letters have been sent to all 13 districts of the province and the relevant sports associations to begin preparations and athlete selection.

HETAUDA, Oct 11: Bagmati Province is set to participate in all 32 sports included in the 10th National Games.



Deepak Lama, secretary of the Provincial Sports Development Council, said a total of 782 people, including 656 athletes from Bagmati, will participate in the competition. Letters have been sent to all 13 districts of the province and the relevant sports associations to begin preparations and athlete selection.


He said the council aims to complete the selection process for all sports by November 1. Of the 32 sports, athletes will be selected at the district level for 12, while the remaining sports will have open selection. The Provincial Sports Development Council said athletes from all 13 districts can participate in the open selection for their respective sports.

Secretary Lama said the recently concluded 3rd Bagmati Provincial Sports Competition was also used as preparation for the 10th National Games. He said athletes’ performances in that competition will also be considered during the selection process.


The council is preparing to provide special training through a closed training program with the aim of achieving strong results at the 10th National Games.


The council said it will prioritize not only the athletes’ physical fitness but also sports psychology, nutrition and regular training.


Bagmati Province has secured Rs 56 million to participate in the competition.


The provincial government has also arranged cash prizes for athletes who win medals at the National Games. The council said the government has prepared a procedure to provide Rs 100,000 to gold medal winners, Rs 75,000 to silver medal winners and Rs 50,000 to bronze medal winners.
