GORKHA, Oct 11: Flooding in the Budhigandaki River has damaged four hydropower projects under construction along the river, according to a preliminary assessment by the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN).
The flood damaged construction sites, camp facilities, bridges, construction materials and equipment at the four projects.
Flood sweeps away Darkhola Hydropower plant
The 341-megawatt Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, promoted by Times Energy Pvt Ltd, lost its main camp area and some construction equipment to the flood. The 24.5-megawatt Dobhan Khola Hydropower Project also suffered damage to several houses in its camp area.
Similarly, the flood swept away a Bailey bridge, construction materials and equipment at the 30.59-megawatt Yaru Khola Hydropower Project. At the 16-megawatt Machhakhola Hydropower Project, it damaged a Bailey bridge, the access road and a bridge leading to the project site.
A detailed assessment of the damage caused to the four hydropower projects is yet to be completed.
