KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The CPN-UML has set dates for conventions of its local-level party committees.
A meeting of the UML Standing Committee held on Thursday at the party’s central office in Chyasal, under the chairmanship of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, decided to hold ward committee conventions on November 12 and local-level committee conventions on December 20.
At the beginning of the meeting, Bidya Devi Bhandari, who was nominated senior leader of the party by the third meeting of the Central Committee, took her oath of office and secrecy.

The meeting also decided to organize a national gathering in the first week of November, according to UML Publicity Department chief Niraj Acharya.
The gathering will bring together office-bearers of provincial and district committees, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of local committees, and elected representatives from different levels, he said.
The party will organize provincial-level gatherings after completing the ward and local-level committee conventions, Acharya said.
The meeting also decided to nominate Nazma Khatun, a candidate on the proportional representation list, to fill the vacant Madhes Province Assembly seat from Rautahat following the death of Jainab Khatun, who had represented the district under the proportional representation system. The party will formally write to the Election Commission regarding the nomination, Acharya said.
The Standing Committee also decided to fill vacant district chairperson positions in 13 districts through decisions of the respective district committees and send the decisions to higher committees for approval.
The Standing Committee will meet again on Friday.
