Prez Yadav urges CA chair for timely constitution

KATHMANDU, May 24: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has drawn attention of Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairperson Subas Nembang to do maximum efforts for brining new constitution by May 27.



Inaugurating the Election Education and Information Center established by the Election Commission (EC) this morning in the Capital, President Dr Yadav urged the CA Chairperson to do maximum efforts to bring the new constitution in the slated timeframe as per the people´s expectations.



CA Chairperson Nembang was also present on the occasion while President Dr Yadav was addressing the programme.



President Dr Yadav said, "People have expected for timely constitution by May 27 and lasting peace for institutional development of the democratic republic."



The President was of the opinion that election was an important means to institutionalize democratic republic and maintain mutual goodwill, bring unity in inclusion, and keep social balance.



President Dr Yadav said democracy is a system to be ruled by the elected representatives and for this the EC completed its historic task by concluding the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.



Dr Yadav hoped that the newly-established Center would work as an entrance to democracy by providing independent, neutral, and reliable information to the people regarding election.



On the occasion, Acting Chief Commissioner of EC Nilkantha Uprety said the Center would be historic to provide information to people regarding their political rights.



Uprety said that the EC was preparing for general election to be held after the writing of the new constitution.



He also said that 10.5 million voters so far have registered their names in the voters´ name list with picture.



During the programme, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Fund Robert Piper, Australian Ambassador to Nepal Susanne Grace, Commissioner of Indian Election Commission V.S Sampath and Deputy Commissioner of Australian Election Commission Tom Rogers expressed their best wishes for the establishment of the Center.



Vice-President Parmanand Jha, CA Chairperson Nembang, Vice-chairperson Purna Kumari Subedi, ministers, chiefs of constitutional bodies, representatives of different political parties, civil society leaders were present on the occasion.



The Center was established with the support from Australian Embassy in Nepal, United Nations Development Fund, and other donor agencies.



Secretary of EC Shankar Prasad Koirala said commoners can get free information on election, democracy, civil rights, and others various issues from the Center. The center is established at the EC premises at Kantipath in the capital.
