Politburo meeting of UML underway

KATHMANDU, March 21: A politburo meeting of the main opposition party CPN-UML is currently underway in Kathmandu to discuss the party’s preparations and plans for the upcoming local-level election.

KATHMANDU, March 21: A politburo meeting of the main opposition party CPN-UML is currently underway in Kathmandu to discuss the party’s preparations and plans for the upcoming local-level election. 


According to the party’s central office Secretary Dr Bhishma Adhikari, the meeting will discuss the issues related to the recent political developments in the country, the party’s manifesto for the local level elections, and criteria for the selection of candidates, among other issues.

The UML Secretariat meeting held on March 15 had decided to call for the party’s politburo, central committee, and standing committee meetings. A meeting of the Standing Committee has been called for March 27.


The meeting of the secretariat had proposed that the recommendation of the ward chairperson and member candidates for the local level election would be made by the ward and district committees. Similarly, the recommendation of the candidates of municipality chief and deputy chief and rural municipality chief and deputy chief will be made by the provincial committee, while the recommendation of a metropolis and sub-metropolis’s chief and deputy chief will be made by the district and provincial committee and finalized by the party’s central committee.
