Police seize Rs 820 million worth of smuggled goods in three months

According to the police, they confiscated items valued at Rs 825.89 million involved in revenue evasion from mid-January (Magh) to mid-April (Chaitra).

KATHMANDU, May 12: Police have seized goods worth over Rs 820 million that were smuggled to evade taxes over a three-month period.


According to the police, they confiscated items valued at Rs 825.89 million involved in revenue evasion from mid-January (Magh) to mid-April (Chaitra).


During various operations and routine inspections, police confiscated gold, silver, hundi money, clothing and other items. Those arrested in connection with these seizures have been handed over, along with the confiscated goods, to the concerned authorities for further action.

The highest-value seizures were made by a team under the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, which recovered goods worth Rs 365.26 million. Within the same period, the police also seized illegal foreign currency worth Rs 250 million from Tokha, Kathmandu.


Similarly, Madhesh Province Police Office seized goods worth Rs 244.91 million that were smuggled to evade taxes.


Koshi Province police recovered items valued at Rs 33.32 million. Karnali Province Police recorded the lowest seizure, confiscating goods worth Rs 2.022 million.


According to police, Sudurpaschim Province police recovered goods worth Rs 41.8 million, while Lumbini Province Police seized illegal gold, silver, currency, and other items worth Rs 115.5 million.
