Police arrest a 'hundi trader' with Rs 1.9 million in cash

KATHMANDU, July 25: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division of Nepal Police on Friday arrested a 'hundi trader' with a huge amount of cash from Bishal Bazar in New Road, Kathmandu.


Acting on a tip-off that illegal hundi business was being run in Kathmandu, a team of police from the division arrested Dundi Raj Neupane, 40, of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-14 in Syangja district, with Rs 1.9 million in cash.

According to the division, Neupane was roaming around New Road in a suspicious manner. "As Neupane was showing suspicious behavior, police checked him, and found a huge amount of cash in his bag," according to the division.


The division also seized his smartphone as the preliminary police investigation found that he was operating the illegal hundi business through Viber – a messaging application.


Police handed over the arrestee to the Pulchowk-based Revenue Investigation Department in Pulchowk for further investigation into the illegal business.
