KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has urged lawmakers with technical backgrounds to use their expertise for the country’s long-term development rather than remaining focused solely on party politics.
Speaking at a meeting with technical-background members of the House of Representatives at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Shah urged them to rise above conventional political issues and focus on long-term policymaking and innovative ideas.

“You have expertise in technical fields and have reached the very place where national policies are formulated. Therefore, make the best use of your knowledge, skills and experience for the country’s development,” Shah said.
He also suggested that lawmakers give equal priority to their technical expertise and professional identities alongside party politics.
Shah said it was natural for lawmakers to become active in party politics during periodic elections and other political activities, but they should use their expertise to contribute to national development plans at other times.
