KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Amid growing intra-party conflict within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, who is also the chairman of the NCP, has called a cabinet meeting at 2 pm.
The cabinet meeting otherwise held on Monday and Thursday has been called for Wednesday after the rival faction led by Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the party decided to hold the party's Secretariat meeting at 1 pm without his consent.
Although the prime minister had initially called a meeting for 1 pm, the cabinet meeting was deferred for an hour, according to a cabinet minister. The reason for the deferral of the meeting for an hour is not known.
NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is considered close to Executive Chairman Dahal, said the scheduled meeting of the party's Secretariat will be held at the scheduled time. He said that the cabinet meeting will not affect the party's meeting.
There are a total of nine members in the NCP's Secretariat. Three Secretariat members close to Prime Minister Oli are cabinet ministers.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli has reached President's office in Shital Niwas for a consultation about his possible step. He had held a meeting with President Bidya Devi Bhandari earlier this week as well.
