KATHMANDU, April 29: A Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is currently underway at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar. The meeting that began at 5 pm is being seen with keen interest as both Prime Minister K P Oli and the rival factions within the party are expected to show their strength within the party.

The meeting takes place amid growing intra-party disputes within the ruling NCP the two rival factions led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal are seeking to oust Prime Minister Oli from power. The factions led by Dahal and Nepal have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Oli, alleging that his government had failed to perform well.
Earlier in the afternoon, Prime Minister Oli and the rival factions had collected signatures of lawmakers supporting them in a bid to show their strength in the party. Prime Minister Oli has announced to face the challenge put forth by the rival factions to oust him from power in the parliament, which is due to begin soon.
