Parki, Pandey win 1,500m golds

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Gopi Chandra Parki of Armed Police Force (APF) and Laxmi Pandey of Nepal Army Club won the men´s and women´s 1,500m races on Wednesday in the National Open Selection Meet at Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar.



Parki won gold in the men´s 1,500m clocking 4 minutes 9.4 seconds. Kalyan Baniya of Army and Laxman Malla Thaukuri of APF finished second and third. In the women´s section, Pandey completed the race in 4 minutes 59 seconds to finish ahead of Brinda Shrestha of APF and Sangita Khadka of Bijeshwari Higher Secondary School. [break]



Army athletes claimed the top two positions in men´s discus throw with Tara Bahadur Karki throwing 37.30m and Rajendra Basnet 36.35m. Hiran Chaudhary of Nepal Police Club won gold in the women´s event with a throw of 30.88m. Amrita Mahato of Army and Jeet Mahato of APF took silver and bronze.



Yam Sajan Sunar of Police claimed the men´s 100m gold clocking 10.6 seconds. Tilak Ram Tharu of Police and Min Bahadur Chaudhary of Army finished second and third in the event. Dil Maya Karki of APF won the women´s race with a time of 12.6 seconds. Durga Devkota and Krishna Chaudhary of Army took silver and bronze.



Surya Bahadur Khatri and Prem Singh of Army secured gold and silver in men´s high jump while Bal Krishna Chaudhary of APF took bronze. Winner Khatri jumped 1.93m.

Keshari Chaudhary of Police jumped 1.50m to take gold in women´s high jump. Shila Chaudhary of APF and Prabha Chaudhary of Army finished second and third.

In the U-16 athletics meet, Ravi Yadav of Ideal Model School won the boys´ 100m race with a time of 12.1 seconds. Sujit Mahat and Dipesh Yadav of St Xavier´s (Godavari) secured second and third positions. Lujala Amatya of Ideal won the girls´ 100m gold clocking 14 seconds. Babita Thapa of Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir and Reshma Rai of St Xavier´s took silver and bronze.



Raju Tamang of Shree Padma High School won the boys´ 1,500m with a time of 5 minutes 12.2 seconds. Sujit Silwal of St Xavier´s and Rupen Baraili of Himalayan Ideal School took silver and bronze medals. Amisha Shrestha of Bijeshwari, Sumi Budhamagar of Shree Sitapaila and Sushila Khadka of Pragati Shiksha claimed the top three positions respectively in girls´ 1,500m.



Ravi Yadav of Ideal, Sujit Mahat and Rose Maharjan of St Xavier´s secured the top three positions in boys´ long jump. Similarly, Kusum Shrestha of Bijeshwari, Lujala Amatya of Ideal and Ranjita Ghimire of Namuna clinched the top three spots in girls´ long jump.

The selection meet is organized to pick the best 12 athletes from 30 different events for the Mission SAG camp targeting the upcoming South Asian Games (SAG).
