One arrested with 250 kg of marijuana in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR, May 15: Police have arrested one person with 250 kg of marijuana that he was attempting to transport to India.


The marijuana was recovered from a pick-up van (Pra 1-02-02 Cha 6331), which was also carrying  raw bananas. The vehicle was intercepted on ICP Road in Biratnagar Municipal City-17 on Tuesday night at 11:30 PM.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Nabaraj Karki, chief of the District Police Office, Morang, stated that the marijuana was found packed in a sack and concealed under the load of bananas in the pick-up van.


Police had been dispatched to the Nepal-India border area after receiving information that bananas and marijuana were being unloaded.


The police seized the vehicle and arrested the driver, Diwas Rai, 18, of Shahid Bhumi Rural Municipality-3 in Dhankuta.


The police said that a case under the Narcotic Drug (Control) Act will be filed against Rai.
