KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) led by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan has stated that it will request the Home Ministry to support its appeal against the Supreme Court verdict of October 4, which not only barred it from operating bank accounts but also put a question mark on its legitimacy.

Pradhan claimed that International Olympic Council (IOC) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) will not recognize the NOC body other than the one led by him.[break]

"We met IOC and OCA officials during the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou and they have clearly said they will recognize the NOC headed by me," said Pradhan. "Rana led committe lso had met those officials and the group clearly knows the IOC and OCA stand. I think Rana ji will not rake up this issue further."

The SC gave its verdict on October 4 after Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar, a member of the Rukma Shamsher Rana-led NOC, had filed a writ against former home minister Bam Dev Gautam´s decision that authorized the NOC headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan to run NOC´s bank account.

"The verdict was issued against the decision of the Home Ministry and we will request the ministry to appeal against the verdict," said Pradhan at a press conference on Thursday. "Even if the ministry refuses to support our cause, as an affected body we will go ahead with the appeal on our own," he said.

Meanwhile, the NOC has condemned the attack on its member Sunil Rajkarnikar on Monday night at the Tribhuwan International Airport and demanded action against the culprits. Despite Rajkarnikar´s claim that the attack was designed by the senior taekwondo coach and NOC joint-secretary Deep Raj Gurung, NOC´s top brass didn´t resort to finger pointing at the press conference.

Without referring to the incidents, NOC has said that it will take strict action against players, coaches and officials if they misbehave.

"We can suspend them from international participation. We will not let anyone who acts undisciplined go unpunished" said Jeevanram Shrestha, NOC general-secretary.
