Nepal's first endobronchial ultrasound starts at Bir

KATHMANDU, April 27: The oldest and biggest government hospital, Bir Hospital, has begun Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) diagnosis for lung and chest patients for the first time in the country.

KATHMANDU, April 27: The oldest and biggest government hospital, Bir Hospital, has begun Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) diagnosis for lung and chest patients for the first time in the country.


EBUS is a minimally invasive but highly effective procedure used to diagnose lung cancer, infections, and other diseases.

The equipment worth about Rs 20 million was brought from Japan a week ago, according to the hospital sources. The hospital planned to bring the sophisticated equipment 15 years ago. "Now, it has been brought and the diagnosis has also begun.


Bir Hospital used to refer about four dozen of chest patients to India every year in the past, according to the hospital officials.
