KATHMANDU, Nov 23: A team of 192 Nepali peacekeepers has left for Syria to participate in the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

The team, comprising mechanical infantry, security units, engineers and health workers, left for Syria this morning on a special UN flight.

The UN Security Council established UNDOF in 1974 to monitor the ceasefire between Israel and Syria and ensure that Israeli and Syrian forces remain unarmed, as well as to monitor the demarcation of the border between the two countries. Since the founding of UNDOF, the Nepal Army has been contributing to its peacekeeping mission.
