KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has received a flood of complaints, most of which concern issues related to local bodies, since launching its toll-free hotline and email service about six weeks ago.
The ministry took the initiative on September 23 to curb corruption and provide the public with direct access to report irregularities within the ministry.
'I will work as people's servant, not their master'
The MoF has urged service seekers to email directly at rameshore@mof.gov.np, the personal email ID of Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal, while they can also send information to the ministry's email gunaso@mof.gov.np and hotline 18105000410.
In less than one and a half months, the ministry registered more than 3,500 complaints against the misconduct existing in the government system. Tanka Prasad Pandey, spokesperson for the MoF, said a total of 2,500 complaints have been received via email addresses and 1,000 complaints have been lodged through WhatsApp. According to him, the MoF also receives about a dozen complaints on the Hello Sarkar platform on a daily basis.
As per the MoF, 80 percent of the lodged complaints are related to the budget of the local governments. In the Hello Sarkar based mechanism, about 60 percent of the grievances are related to this heading. The MoF officials claim that the ministry addresses almost all the grievances sent by the general public.
