KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The Ministry of Urban Development has reported a financial progress of 58.24% for the Fiscal Year 2022/23. Out of the total budget allocation of Rs 59.97 billion for the year, Rs 34.94 billion has been utilized, as stated by the ministry.
This financial progress marks a slight decrease from the previous fiscal year, 2021/22, which had witnessed a 70.12% financial achievement. A notable shift in leadership occurred within the Ministry of Urban Development in the third week of March 2023, with Sita Gurung assuming her role. Prior to Gurung's tenure, the financial progress was recorded at a mere 18%. Responding to the urgency of addressing this issue, Gurung initiated swift actions, appointing a monitoring team across all seven provinces and placing herself at the helm.
The monitoring team's primary objective was to promptly resolve challenges hindering progress, with the aim of enhancing the overall percentage of accomplishment.

Breaking down the progress across various projects, the federal project implementation unit in Dhanusha emerges as the leader with the highest progress, while the project implementation unit in Kailali recorded the lowest advancement.
Significant progress percentages in intensive urban and building construction projects include 91.79% in Dhanusha, 82.61% in Jhapa, and 75.81% in Jumla, among others.
The Ministry of Urban Development also reported varying levels of progress in diverse projects and initiatives across different regions. Key areas that witnessed noteworthy progress include the Nepal-India Border Integrated Check Post Development Project (74.27%), urban government capacity development (50.47%), and the new city project (67.08%).
Furthermore, projects such as the regional urban development program (49.04%), the integrated settlement development program (54.50%), and the special building construction project (59.77%) have shown substantial progress.
