KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Newly-appointed Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC said that he will take initiatives to speed up the preparations for the upcoming South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in Nepal next year.
Speaking during the inspection of the sports infrastructures at Tripureshwar on Tuesday, KC also promised to give top priority to renovate the earthquake-damaged Dasharath Stadium.
Government commits to increase rewards for SAG winners
Though Nepal announced to organize SAG in March 2018, work for both the SAG preparation and renovation of the stadium has failed to gather any momentum so far.
On the same day, minister KC also inspected different departments of NSC and major infrastructures at Satdobato.
As no match can be played at Dasharath Stadium, ANFA has been unable to hold A-division league and several international football tournaments for long time.
KC said that the task of construction and renovation of sports infrastructures will be given top priority during his tenure also keeping the SAG in mind. “I felt that there has been some work in the development and renovation of the infrastructures but it is not enough,” Said KC. “Now we will expedite the work with effective coordination among all the important stake holders.”
