RPP decides to stage demonstration in prohibited areas on April 20

Chairman Lingden also accused the government of curtailing the fundamental right to peaceful protest.

KATHMANDU, April 17: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to stage a protest in restricted areas on April 20.



Announcing the decision at Thursday's Executive Committee meeting of the RPP, party Chairman Rajendra Lingden said the party would carry out demonstrations in restricted zones. “We have decided to protest in restricted areas on April 20,” he said, “We will organize protest rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations in all 77 districts on April 22.”

Chairman Lingden also accused the government of curtailing the fundamental right to peaceful protest. “By designating prohibited zones here and there, the government is steadily shrinking fundamental rights. In opposition to that, we have decided to demonstrate in the restricted areas,” he said.


The meeting also decided to strengthen the party’s organization down to the ward level in the Kathmandu Valley. Additionally, the meeting resolved to demand the release of party leaders, including Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal SJB Rana, who were arrested during the incident at Tinkune on March 28.
