KATHMANDU, April 17: A total of 676 foreign nationals have received labor permits to work in Nepal in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024/25 (mid-July to mid-April), according to the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety (DoLOS).
In the month of Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April) alone, 90 foreigners were issued work permits. While approximately 2,200 Nepali youths leave the country daily for foreign employment, Nepal has seen a growing influx of foreign workers, particularly in project-based jobs.

Chinese nationals continue to top the list of foreign workers receiving labor permits. The Department stated that labor permits for 1,231 foreign nationals were renewed by the end of Chaitra, with 150 renewals occurring in that month alone.
During the same period, 28 inspections were carried out to monitor whether foreign workers employed in institutions held valid work permits. Two such inspections were conducted in Chaitra.
The DoLOS also issued labor supply licenses to 42 companies over the past nine months and inspected a total of 345 firms.
Additionally, 2,555 inspections were carried out concerning child labor, while 2,583 inspections were conducted to check compliance with labor laws. Likewise, DoLOS resolved 362 labor disputes during this period, and 29 cases of industrial accidents were reported.
