KATHMANDU, April 17: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has made it clear that the inhumane and heinous crimes committed during the conflict period cannot be granted amnesty while concluding the transitional justice process.

Inaugurating the sixth national convention of the Nepal Ex-Army and Police Association today, Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Chairperson of the CPN-UML, stated that the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission will function in a way that ensures justice for the victims.

He stated that there will no longer be any delay in the formation process of those commissions, adding that since authoritarianism has been defeated and the country has moved towards a democratic system, any kind of killings, violence, disruption of religious harmony, or acts of anarchy influenced by misleading agendas will no longer be acceptable.

“We are now in a federal democratic republican system. One can go among the people and compete. When the UML formed a single-party government by winning the election and initiated unprecedented work for development and prosperity, we were displaced due to fear and provocation by reactionaries. Currently, we are working as a coalition government,” PM Oli clarified.

He further added, “We have a history of nation-building and unity. We will pass on a prosperous and united Nepal to the new generation. We will not allow our borders to shrink or our national pride to be compromised. We will move forward while preserving our civilized and cultured society.”

Chairman Oli also called for a celebration on Democracy Day, which falls on April 24, urging the UML to organize a youth conference to celebrate development and the rights of the people.
