Chocolates have always been there and it holds a lot of memories too. Orange Balls, White Rabbit, Black Balls, Mango Tart, Lacto Chocolate are just a few names we all can connect to. [break]
As children, all of us tried all kinds of chocolates we could get hold of. It’s no surprise that even now, when we see some of them in the market, it takes us back in time.
Pradeep Gautam vividly remembers the orange and black balls widely available in the market back in the day when it was also cheap. “The best thing about those candies was that you could get four candies for Re 1. The other candy I remember is the one that rotated but I don’t remember the name,” he shares.
Roshan Nepal also remembers the famous orange and black balls. “I can never forget the flavor of those candies. It still brings back good memories and will never fade away. Those were the days when you could get four candies for a Rupee,” says Nepal.
Chocolates did not only taste good back in the days but were cheap too. For school-going kids with less pocket money, these chocolates brought happiness and smiles to many.

Shiva Ram Maharjan recollects, “I was really crazy about chocolates back in the days, especially of orange balls and lacto, and if I could, I would still buy them. Those were the cheapest candies I ever bought which tasted good.” He added that after some time, he started buying the edible plastic coated White Rabbits for a Rupee.
On the same line, Preeti Karna remembers those candies, too. “Every time when we had recess, we ran to buy chewing gums and the delicious orange candies.
Things we used to do to make our parents buy us chocolates and bubble gums are just priceless and the memories still linger on. Sad we don’t get those sweets now,” she shares.
For Praveen Bhusal, however, candies are like appetizers and a part of his daily meal, and as a result, his teeth decayed. But he still continues to enjoy the candies.
“Once my mom found my secret place where I used to hide my candies, including the banned ‘gai chocolate,’ I got a good scolding from my mom,” he
remembers.
Occasion or not, we all have a soft corner for chocolates, especially the ones that remind us of our childhood days, school and friends.
