Maoists rake in moolah through land deals

BUTWAL, Sept 8: Local Maoist leaders have allegedly amassed money by unlawfully arbitrating land and other assets ownership disputes. A meeting of the Awadh State Council few days back had said that the leaders had tarnished the party´s image through their involvement in such disputes for monetary benefit. [break]



Of those alleged in the involvement include central member Ram Prasad Banjade and Bamdev Chhetri, district secretary Yagya Pokharel, standing committee member Top Bahadur Rayamajhi´s wife and Awadh council member Seema Rayamaji. They have allegedly been involved in cases ranging from minor disputes between mother-in-law and daughter-in law to dispute of asset ownership.



For instance, Yagya Pokharel and YCL Rupandehi chairperson Ganga Karki ´Puja´ installed party flags in 10 households along Siddhartha road in Butwal on July 16.



“I have been living in this house for years and it is sad that the cadres erected flag at my house without even informing me,” Maoist lawmaker, Binod Pahadi, who has been living in rent in one of the houses, said. Pahadi also accused them of damaging his property worth Rs 150, 000.
