Maiti Nepal rescued 2,133 women in past 10 months

NEPALGUNJ, Feb 26: The statistics compiled by the Maiti Nepal, a non-governmental organization working for the rescue and rehabilitation of women victims of trafficking and helpless women, shows it rescued 2,133 women and children being trafficked from different transit points along the Nepal-India border in the last ten months.



Maiti Nepal states that it also rescued 113 Nepali women and children who were working in exploitative conditions or were forced to work in the sex market in different Indian cities in that period.[break]



Senior Administrative Officer at Maiti Nepal, Sabin Gurung said out of the 1,526 applications filed with the Maiti Nepal by the relatives of the women and children who have gone abroad for searching for them, the organization has traced the whereabouts of 191.



In the same period, Maiti Nepal provided support to 699 victims of domestic violence, registered 27 cases of women trafficking and assisted the 23 rape victims.
