KATHMANDU, March 9: Only a few areas of the country have seen light rainfall in the past days. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), light rain is currently reported in some parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces, while the weather in most of the Himalayan region remains cloudy.
Senior meteorologist Bibhuti Pokharel, a spokesperson at the DHM, said that although a system for rainfall exists in Nepal’s higher regions, precipitation has not occurred. “A system has formed for rain in the upper areas, but it is not producing rainfall,” she said.

The DHM recorded 1.4 millimeters of rain in Kathmandu in the past hour. Officials also noted that the weather is unlikely to fully clear over the next two to three days. Meteorologists attribute this to active local winds and western currents, preventing complete sunny conditions.
Currently, the upper atmosphere features a high-pressure system, while a low-pressure area near eastern Nepal and the influence of western winds are also affecting the weather.
