KANCHANPUR, July 9: As many as six women were rescued while heading to India via the western transit route at Gaddhachouki from a suspected human trafficking racket on Saturday.

The rescue operation was carried out jointly by Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur and the police. Three women from Dhading, two from Myagdi and one from Kathmandu were allegedly headed for Kuwait and Iraq via India, Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur Coordinator Maheshwori Bhatta said.

"They were heading towards India on a jeep with Indian registration number plate, so we rescued them from possible danger," she said. The rescued women's ages range from 20 to 30 years.

The police have detained Mai Bahadur Tamang, 50, who was escorting the women to New Delhi, the capital of India. The police have launched further investigation into the case. The women are currently with Maiti Nepal.

A rescued woman shared that they were charged Rs 75,000 to 80,000 by brokers in Kathmandu for arranging the trip.

Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur has rescued 46 children and women within the past four weeks alone. RSS
