Kamal gets cash prize

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Three weightlifting fans awarded cash prize to the national record holder Kamal Bahadur Adhikari on Wednesday amidst a special function organized by National Weightlifting Association to bid farewell to the players participating in the 11th South Asian Games (SAG).



The association´s general secretary Parthasarathi Sen Gupta and members Sunil Raj Joshi and Ishwar Bahadur Shrestha jointly awarded Rs 25,000 to Kamal for his national record performance in the Beijing Olympics. [break]



Kamal had set three national records in Beijing as he lifted 114 kg in snatch, 154 kg in clean and jerk and 268 kg in total. Kamal is the only Nepali weightlifter to win gold medal in the SAG. Kamal is participating in 69 kg weight category in Dhaka. Kamal had won gold in the 10th SAG, Colombo.



At the same function, National Sports Council (NSC) member Geeta Shrestha, former weightlifter Bijendra Bikram Shah and Badri Mainali of Gosainkunda Cooperative handed over tracksuits to the players.



NSC´s Vice-president Pitambar Timilsina handed over other sets of tracksuits provided by the association.



Likewise, Nepal Volleyball Association bade farewell to the volleyball team participating in the SAG. The association handed over tracksuits to the team. The volleyball team headed to Dhaka on Wednesday.
