KATHMANDU, May 6: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli is set to hold an important discussion with party lawmakers from Sudurpaschim Province today in Gundu in Bhaktapur. The meeting, scheduled for 11 AM, will be attended by 11 provincial MPs.
The meeting comes amid discussions about a possible change in the parliamentary party leadership. Some lawmakers had recently met Oli individually, after which he indicated that decisions would be taken only through collective discussion. Leadership change is expected to be a key agenda item in today’s meeting, although no final decision is likely immediately.

Earlier, three lawmakers had held consultations with top leaders demanding a change in the parliamentary party leader. However, a consensus has not yet been reached on who should take over the leadership. Deputy leader Santosh Sharma Thapa and chief whip Chakra Malla are seen as contenders, while Dharma Pathak and Surendra Pal have also said they are ready to take responsibility if given the opportunity.
Along with leadership change, issues such as power-sharing within the provincial government and a possible cabinet reshuffle will also be discussed. Party leaders have been debating the possibility of cooperation with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and initiating such collaboration from Sudurpaschim Province.
Some lawmakers have also raised the issue of changing ministers, arguing that the current provincial ministers have already completed over two years in office. With speculation of elections possibly being announced before the upcoming budget, the matter of a ministerial reshuffle is expected to be raised in the meeting.
At present, UML has three ministers and one state minister in the Sudurpaschim provincial government. All lawmakers have already arrived in Kathmandu, although the official agenda of the meeting has not been made public.
