NSC recommends cash prize of Rs 300,000 for runner-up in CAVA Women’s Nations League

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The silver medal winning players of the CAVA Women's Volleyball Nations League will receive a cash prize of Rs 300,000 each.

The National Sports Council (NSC) has recommended a cash prize of Rs 300,000 to each runner-up player of the Nepali team in CAVA Nations League. The recommendation has been made before the Government of Nepal, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The National Executive Committee meeting of the NSC has taken the decision to award a cash prize to the national women's volleyball team. According to the National Sports Development Act, 14 players participating in the tournament will receive a cash price of Rs 300,000 each.

Similarly, the head coach will receive Rs 200,000 while the assistant coach, manager and physio will receive Rs 120,000 cash prizes. Nepal defeated Sri Lanka, the Maldives and India in the league tournament which was conducted from August 1 to August 7. Although Nepal lost to Iran in the same league, it defeated Iran in the semi-final. However, Nepal was again limited to the runner-up position, after losing 3-2 to India in the final match.

Along with Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Iran and the Maldives participated in the tournament. Nepal, which was the runner-up in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) of 2019, has failed to take revenge against India even after five years at home ground. Nepal also lost 3-2 to India in SAG. However, Nepal won 3-2 over India in the last week's CAVA league at the home ground. Nepal secured a  first and historic victory against India in women's volleyball.
