PATIALA, India, March 10: In a first of its kind initiative, the state's department of prisons has set up a well-equipped theatre hall in the jail in Patiala, Punjab. With the installation of the theater, the prisoners lodged in the Patiala Central Jail will be able to enjoy regular three shows of Hindi movies.
Theaters back into operation
The theatre hall, which can accommodate 60 viewers at a time, was inaugurated by ADGP (prisons) R P Meena on Monday.
The facility was launched on Monday with screening of popular Bollywood movie 'Mother India.'
In 2013, jail authorities had started imparting music training to inmates. Similarly, in 2014, classes for short-term beautician courses were also introduced for female inmates.
According to authority, besides films giving message of patriotism or addressing social issues, comedies and documentaries on evils like drug addiction be also screened.
