Theaters closed due to COVID-19 have reopened after about 10 months of rest. A total of eight of the closed theaters — Shilpee Theater, Jhorahat Theater, Arohan Gurukul, Pokhara Theater in Pokhara, Mandala Theater in Kathmandu, Theater Mall, Kaushi Theater and Shaili Theater — under the Theater Hub began reopening one after another from Thursday.

"As per our collective decision to bring the theaters back into operation following all safety rules, it has been decided to open most of the theaters gradually from January 14," said a statement issued by Theater Hub on Wednesday.

It is mentioned that theaters will be opened by adopting all safety measures during the time of pandemic. Therefore, from Thursday when going to watch plays, the audience will mandatorily have to wear masks. The play will be staged in the theater by providing sanitizer and maintaining physical distance. Another important thing is that not all drama performances will last longer than an hour.

There are now a total of 60 theaters in Kathmandu and outside the Valley. But for now, only eight of them are being reopened.

The first day of the reopening took place by staging a play '6 Paatra ko Ekaalaap' at Shilpee Theatre, Battisputali.
