KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kalapani this morning via a helicopter. The visit is marked by his scheduled trips to Adikailasha and Parvati Kund, along with a planned interaction program with local residents from Pithoragarh and Gunji.
It's important to note that the area Modi is visiting lies along the Nepal-India border. In Nepal's new map, which was unveiled by the government in May 2020, it encompasses territories including Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, Gunji, Nabi, Kuti, and other parts of the Lipulek region. However, India has persistently asserted its claim to this area.

Kiran Joshi, Chief District Officer of Darchula, stated that the Indian side did not officially inform Nepal about Prime Minister Modi's visit. "As we have not received an official communication from the Indian side regarding Modi's visit, our information is limited, but we have received informal updates."
CDO Joshi also made efforts to contact the Indian District Magistrate upon learning of Modi's visit, but was unable to establish contact.
Accompanying Prime Minister Modi is Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who is also visiting the Kalapani region. Modi shared via Social Network X that he would lay the foundation stones for projects in Pithoragarh and engage with the residents of Gunji village. His visit carries significant spiritual importance.
This visit raises questions and discussions about the ongoing border dispute between Nepal and India in the region.
