KATHMANDU, Sept 10: India clinched the title of U-16 SABA Basketball Championship that concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday. Unbeaten Indian team acquired a total of eight points in the tournament that featured five South Asian nations.


Champion India qualified for 5th Asian U-16 Basketball Championship to be held in Malaysia in October.   Home team Nepal secured third place in the competition with six points from four matches. To confirm its third place finish, Nepali team registered 103-41 victory over Maldives on Saturday, at National Sports Council covered hall.

Likewise, runner-up Bangladesh gathered seven points while Bhutan and Maldives wrapped up the tournament in fourth and fifth places respectively. Bhutan earned five points while Maldives collected four in the tournament that was held in round-robin format.  In the last day match, Gelchen Sherpa contributed highest 25 points for Nepali team to record an easy win over Maldives.


Likewise, Abhisek Singh added 20 points for Nepal. Champion India defeated Bhutan 131-50 in its last match. Most valuable player of the tournament Prince Pal Singh contributed highest 20 points in India’s win.
