KATHMANDU, March 22: Hundreds of locals of Piprabirta village in Bara district have fled from their homes fearing hostility from Maoists´, the Nepal Samacharpatra daily reported Sunday. They left the village after local Mahatos, who are supporters of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), attacked and looted property of people of the Sahani caste following a dispute over construction of an irrigation canal in the village. At least seven Mahatos and over two dozen Sahanis have been injured in clashes that ensued after the dispute. Maoist cadres have vandalized at least 30 houses belonging to Sahanis and also looted their food and other belongings.
