KATHMANDU, March 29: Former Energy Minister Deepak Khadka has been arrested by Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for investigation into alleged money laundering.
According to police authorities, Khadka was taken into custody and brought to the CIB office in Lazimpat.
The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on high-profile political figures following the formation of the government led by Balen Shah.

Khadka has been linked to multiple controversies, including disputes related to Nepal Scouts and outstanding dues in dedicated and trunk line electricity usage. Allegations have also surfaced regarding irregularities during his tenure as energy minister, particularly involving the awarding of the Jagdulla Hydropower Project contract.
Authorities said the investigation will focus on suspected financial irregularities and asset laundering. Police are also preparing to question him regarding reports of foreign currency recovered from his residence during the Gen Z protests, when vandalism and arson had taken place at his Budhanilkantha home.
His arrest follows similar action against former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were detained on Saturday in connection with the same broader developments.
