Hospital staffer hammers doc's wife to death, child critically injured

SARLAHI, June 28: The wife of a doctor working at Malangawa-based Sarlahi Eye Treatment Center has died in a brutal attack by one of the staffers of the hospital on Thursday.

SARLAHI, June 28: The wife of a doctor working at Malangawa-based Sarlahi Eye Treatment Center has died in a brutal attack by one of the staffers of the hospital on Thursday.


The son of the deceased is also critically injured in the incident.

Amrit Kumar Baitha, 30, who worked as an office assistant at the hospital had attacked Supriya Bharati, the 26-year-old wife of Dr Dipendra Rajak in the head with a hammer, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Sarlahi. Supriya's four-year-old son Diwash has also received serious injury in the attack, according to police.


According to Police, Baitha attacked the mother and son when they were at their apartment on the second floor of the hospital building at 1: 15 pm on Thursday.


Supriya died on the spot. The child was rushed to the District Hospital in Malangawa but the hospital referred him to Birgunj. Baitha who hails from Baudhimai Municipality of Rautahat is the brother of Dr Rajak's brother-in-law. Baitha is a permanent resident of Sarmujba of Bodhimai Rural Municipality-3 of Rautahat. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, according to police. Police also said Baitha fled across the border to India after the incident.
